To comply with The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons guidelines “a veterinary surgeon must take steps to provide 24-hour emergency cover for the care of animals of those species treated by the practice during normal working hours”. This means that every Veterinary practice must have a facility to provide emergency care to its clients 24 hours a day.

IF YOU ARE  A CLIENT AT ANOTHER VETERINARY PRACTICE YOU SHOULD CONTACT THEM REGARDING EMERGENCY TREATMENT FOR YOUR PET. EVERY VETERINARY PRACTICE IS OBLIGED TO PROVIDE EMERGENCY COVER FOR THEIR CLIENTS.

Not all animals will develop an illness or become injured during routine surgery hours and unfortunately some animals will require treatment when the surgery is closed. If you are a client of Beechwood Veterinary Hospital and you need urgent veterinary attention for your pet, a Veterinary Surgeon may be contacted on (01302) 534999. Before you ring this number please make sure you have a pen and paper available as a message will be played giving you the contact number of the duty Veterinary Surgeon. The duty Veterinary Surgeon will assess the information you provide and determine if your pet needs to be examined and treated at the Hospital.

If your pet needs to be seen at the Hospital, when you contact the duty Vet you will be given the following information:

  1. Directions to the hospital.
  2. A time at which the Vet will meet you at the hospital.
  3. An approximate cost of the initial emergency consultation.
  4. Any other information relating to the safe transport of your pet to the hospital.

PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR REASONS OF SECURITY, ENTRY TO THE HOSPITAL WILL NOT BE PERMITTED UNLESS YOU HAVE TELEPHONED THE ON CALL VETERINARY SURGEON TO ARRANGE AN APPOINTMENT. NO OTHER MEMBER OF STAFF IS PERMITTED TO ALLOW ENTRY TO THE HOSPITAL.
